Liverpool Kendo Club has been running for over 30 years and is currently the only British Kendo Association registered kendojo on Merseyside. We practice on Saturdays between 2 and 4pm and Wednesdays between 8 and 10pm at the New Belvedere Community Centre. We are a family dojo and welcome everyone.

What is Kendo?

Kendo is a traditional Japanese martial art that uses bamboo swords (shinai) and protective armour (bogu). It’s derived from the samurai’s swordsmanship (kenjutsu) and has evolved into a modern sport and discipline that emphasises etiquette, respect, and self-improvement.

Kendo practitioners, known as kendoka, engage in matches (shiai) and practice forms (kata) to refine their skills. It’s not just about physical prowess; kendo also focuses on the development of the spirit, fostering qualities like perseverance, courage, and integrity.

The art is practiced worldwide, with federations and clubs supporting its growth and maintaining its traditions. Learn More.
